The Power of Slow Mornings

There was a time when no matter how much I prepped the night before, how early I went to bed, or how determined I was to wake up before the alarm, my mornings never felt like enough.

I worked six days a week with little to show for it. My body ran on quick convenience foods and energy drinks instead of nourishment. My mind was dulled by endless commutes and the wishes of others. Even if I packed food, even if I set my clothes out the night before, even if I did everything “right,” I still woke up tired, behind, and out of sync with myself.

That was survival mode. And I lived there far too long.

Then came the concussion— the moment my body finally forced me to stop. I realized if I didn’t make radical changes, I wouldn’t just lose my mornings. I would lose myself.

The Power of Slow Mornings

Now, my mornings look different. I wake up when my body is ready. I sip coffee in the backyard with my dog. I take a walk. I eat breakfast that actually fuels me. Some days I journal. Other days I meditate. I get my son off to school and take my mother to her doctor’s appointments without rushing. The pace is steady, the energy is grounded, and I feel present for my life.

Because I run my own soul-led business, I now have space for what matters. I can attend philanthropic events without checking the clock. I can pour my energy into Rotary, building campaigns and fundraising opportunities that ripple out into my community. I can meet a friend for a breakfast business meeting where connection matters more than efficiency.

Slow mornings give me clarity. They give me creativity. And they remind me why I chose this path in the first place.

What It Means to Be Soul-Led

For me, being soul-led means alignment on every level. It means honoring my ideas and following through on them in ways that uplift others. It means refusing to sell myself short or dim my light because someone else doubts my capacity. It means creating from a place of wholeness, not panic.

A soul-led business isn’t about hustle, it’s about presence. It’s about building something that reflects who you truly are, and giving yourself the time and space to show up fully in your life and work.

Why This Matters

Maybe your mornings look more like my “before” picture. Maybe you’re stuck in rush-mode, hitting snooze, racing through traffic, and wondering why you feel drained before the day has even begun. Or maybe you’re a new entrepreneur doing too much at once, trying to prove you can keep up with the relentless pace. Maybe you’re operating from panic instead of presence. I’ve been there. I am there some days, even now.

Here’s the truth: the best ideas don’t come from rushing. They come from slowing down. From giving yourself enough stillness to listen. From creating a life where mornings feel like freedom instead of survival.

Your Next Step

You don’t have to quit your job tomorrow. You don’t have to rebuild your life overnight. But you can start asking: What would it look like if I chose more slow mornings for myself?

Because your mornings are a reflection of the life you’re choosing. And you always have the power to choose differently.

I want you to start asking more questions!

Reflection Prompts for Your Own Journey

  • What do my mornings currently feel like—freedom or survival?

  • What’s one small change I could make tomorrow to create more ease?

  • If I slowed down, what ideas, insights, or possibilities might have space to appear?

  • What does “soul-led” mean to me, and how might I start aligning my work with that vision?

As a business consultant and mentor, I help people move out of survival mode and into a soul-led business that feels aligned, intentional, and sustainable. If you’re ready to explore that shift, let’s talk.
